Whether you're relocating to Christchurch, renovating your home, working on a temporary assignment, travelling with family or simply looking for somewhere special to call home for a while, Heart of the Plains offers the comfort and privacy of your own home, with everything ready for you to move in.
Flexible furnished stays available from 1 month to 12 months.
Stay a little longer:
1 - 3 months: $1,400 per week including utilities
3 - 6 months: $1,300 per week including utilities
6 - 11 months: from $1,200 per week including utilities
12 months: $1,000 per week excluding utilities

Solar-powered and self-contained, Top of the Plains sits on Sarah and Craig's farm at Mt Somers, an hour and a half from Christchurch. Sink into the wood-fired hot tub after a day in the high country, cook up something on the BBQ, or just watch the light change over the plains. It's a stay built for slowing down.

About us
The Family Behind Peak to Plains
Sarah began leasing Glengyle Downs from her parents in 2018 - the start of a new chapter with Craig. They married on the site where Top Of The Plains now sits, started a family, and built their life around two properties: Glengyle Downs (beef) and Foxdale (arable).
From that came Top Of The Plains: an off-grid Arbol passive house offering a unique escape in the Canterbury Foothills, welcoming guests since January 2024.
Now, alongside raising two young children, Sarah and Craig's love for Canterbury has grown into Peak to Plains - with Heart Of The Plains in Christchurch giving you a place to stay longer and make the city your own, connecting city and countryside for visitors near and far.
Sarah began leasing Glengyle Downs from her parents in 2018. It was the start of an exciting new chapter for her and Craig. The couple married right where Top Of The Plains now sits, then started a family and built their life around farming. Together they work across two properties: Glengyle Downs, a beef farming operation, and Foxdale, an arable farming operation.
It was during these years that the idea for Top Of The Plains took shape. Sarah and Craig wanted to offer guests a unique escape in the Canterbury Foothills. The result is an Arbol passive house, sitting off the grid, which welcomed its first guests in January 2024.
Today, alongside raising their two children (aged 7 and 3), Sarah and Craig continue to farm together. Their love for Canterbury and everything it offers has grown into something bigger: Peak to Plains.
Heart Of The Plains is Sarah and Craig's second chapter. Their story started on Glengyle Downs, the beef farm Sarah has leased from her parents since 2018, where the couple married, started a family, and built a life farming there and at Foxdale. When their off-grid cabin, Top Of The Plains, welcomed its first guests in January 2024, they discovered how much people loved connecting with the land - and wanted to bring that same feeling into the city. Heart Of The Plains is the result: your own home in Christchurch, built by a family who knows Canterbury inside and out.
